A man and woman will face court today charged with 27 offences after being arrested on the state’s southern border yesterday.
About 11.30am (Saturday 26 November 2022), a motorist recognised a friend’s Toyota Hilux travelling on the Cobb Highway, Moama.
The ute – which had been reported stolen from Porter Street, Moama, last Tuesday (22 November 2022) – was towing a flatbed trailer carrying a Nissan Navara.
While officers from Murray River Police District were alerted, the ute was followed through the surrounding area, with the driver of the Hilux allegedly crashing into several cars. On each occasion the driver of the Hilux allegedly failed to stop and render assistance.
The stolen vehicle has also allegedly driven through boundary fences along Yarraman Road, Bunnaloo, before stopping.
Police will allege in court when the driver and passenger were confronted by a number of people, they used an iron bar to threaten them.
A short time later, police arrived and arrested the 33-year-old male driver and a 29-year-old female passenger.
When the vehicle was searched, police located a firearm, methamphetamine and a number of items alleged to have been stolen. Checks further revealed the man was a disqualified driver and the trailer was unregistered.
They were taken to Deniliquin Police Station where the man was charged with 21 offences,
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention (five counts)
- Drive motor vehicle menaces another with intent (four counts)
- Not give particulars to other driver (two counts)
- Destroy or damage property >$2000 &
- Enter enclosed land not prescribed premises with lawful excuse
- Armed with intent commit indictable offence
- Possess unauthorised pistol
- Use unregistered trailer on road etc
- Larceny
- Supply prohibited drug>indicatable &
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
The woman has been charged with six offences,
- Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Enter inclosed land not prescribed premises with lawful excuse
- Possess unauthorised pistol
- Larceny
- Supply prohibited drug>indicatable &
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.
Both were refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Sunday 27 November 2022).
