COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Nambour Library

Subject: COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Nambour Library

Yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 10 March 2020) Sunshine Coast Council was advised by Queensland Health that a person who visited Nambour Library on Thursday, March 5 between 9.30am and 1pm, had since been diagnosed with COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

After undertaking a risk assessment, Queensland Health advised the risk to patrons and staff was low.

However, as the safety of our staff, library patrons and community is Council’s highest priority, Council decided to close Nambour Library today only as a precaution.

Queensland Health has advised symptoms to look for include fever or coughing, sore throat and fatigue or shortness of breath.

Patrons who were in the library during the times above and are experiencing any of these symptoms, are encouraged to isolate themselves immediately and contact their GP for further advice.

While coronavirus is of concern, it is important to remember that most people displaying symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or tiredness are likely suffering with a cold or other respiratory illness – not coronavirus.

Personal hygiene is the single most important action all of us can take at this time.

Queensland Health advises practising good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence against most viruses. You should:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
  • Cover your cough and sneeze, dispose of tissues, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser
  • And if unwell, avoid contact with others (stay more than 1.5 metres from people).

I can confirm that as soon as Queensland Health contacted council, our library staff were advised.

We will continue to provide advice and support to our staff.

Queensland Health has advised that council has taken all necessary and appropriate action and precautions.

Council is committed to supporting Queensland Health as the lead agency responsible for responding to coronavirus and will ensure our community is kept informed.
