COVID-19 – Irresponsible Quarantine Behaviour

Northern Territory Police have relocated a 29-year-old man to the Howard Springs quarantine facility under a Chief Health Officer direction, following inappropriate behaviour during his quarantine period.

The man arrived in Darwin by plane on 6 April 2020 and was required to quarantine in a Darwin hotel. Upon arrival, the man was identified as ‘high-risk’ for potential non-compliance. The same day he failed to comply with directions and was issued an infringement notice for breaching quarantine.

Further disruptive behaviour identified that the man was no longer going to comply with directions and he has been relocated for an increased level of supervision.

Commissioner Jamie Chalker APM said compliance from everyone is essential during this critical period for the Northern Territory.

“The man has been relocated to provide authorities with a level of oversight to ensure the man is properly cared for while he completes his quarantine period.

“Irresponsible behaviour and non-compliance is not tolerated and we will take action against those who threaten the safety of Territorians.”
