COVID-19 Restrictions Update – 12 Feb 2021

As announced by the State Government today, a statewide Stage 4 lockdown of Victoria will commence at 11.59pm tonight (Friday 12 February 2021) through to 11.59pm on Wednesday 17 February 2021.

This therefore means that there shall be no cricket matches, cricket training, social functions, in person meetings etc. held during this time.

MATCHES DUE TO BE SCHEDULED TODAY – Friday 12 February 2021

Already existing state government directions apply to all matches planned for this afternoon / this evening (noting that these fall before the 11.59pm shutdown period commences) with all existing COVID-19 protocols to be strictly applied as per normal.

We do however strongly encourage Associations to reconsider the need to play cricket this afternoon/evening in light of doing our best to minimise the chances of spreading of the COVID-19 virus.

Whilst they can be played, Associations may choose to cancel matches – especially in metropolitan Melbourne. We note that some Associations have already moved to cancel matches for today and Cricket Victoria support Associations making a decision to cancel, postpone or to continue matches as planned.

We again note that matches are technically allowed to proceed today by the State Government with restrictions commencing at 11.59pm. For matches that do proceed, clubs must strictly follow all COVID-19 protocols with an increased focus on “Get in, play, get out”. We urge clubs to consider limiting any mingling before or after matches, reconsider canteens, limit time spent indoors and limit the number of attendees to prioritise coaches, players, umpires and scorers.
