Covid – Infringements issued – Breach of CHO Directions

Northern Territory Police have issued five infringements for breaches of the Chief Health Officer’s Directions yesterday.

The infringements were all issued to individuals who attended a protest at a business in Coconut Grove that had previously been shut down for failing to comply with the Chief Health Officer’s Directions.

Incident Controller Acting Commander Lauren Hill said, “Police do not enjoy issuing these infringements but we do again ask people to understand that these measures are in place to safeguard Territorians.

“The CHO Directions are law, they are not negotiable and police are no longer taking an educative approach when it comes to compliance.”

“Operation Crown investigators continue to review footage taken at the location, and where a breach of the CHO Direction occurs, further infringements may be issued”.

The penalty for failing to abide by the CHO Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011 is $5,024 for an individual and $25,120 for a business.
