Councillor Peter Johnstone has been elected Mayor of the Clarence Valley following an Extraordinary Council Meeting held in Maclean on 24 September 2026. Mayor Johnstone joins Deputy Mayor Cristie Yager, who was elected on Thursday 17 September.
Councillors Baker, Johnstone and Yager nominated for the position of Mayor, with each nominee given three minutes to outline their intentions for the role and why they believed they were suited to the position. Through an elimination process, the final two nominees were Baker and Johnstone with Cr Baker receiving 3 votes and Cr Johnstone receiving 6 votes.
Councillor Peter Johnstone was then declared Mayor of the Clarence Valley.
