4 December 2021

The new police station in Nightcliff is complete, forming a critical part of the wider redevelopment of John Stokes Square.

The Nightcliff Police Station was a 2016 election promise of the Territory Labor Government, with construction commencing in April 2020.

The station will provide improved proximity and visibility to assist police in keeping the community safe and help reduce antisocial behaviour in the area.

The new Nightcliff Police Station includes:

· 24/7 patrol capacity

· Muster rooms to cater for general-duties officers

· Community space

· Interview rooms

· Outside respite area for Police

· Break-out spaces

Key police initiatives will also operate from the new facility including the School Based Policing Program and a Youth Diversion Unit.

The John Stokes Redevelopment also includes the construction of specifically designed public housing for seniors and people living with disabilities, along with a pedestrian friendly link between Nightcliff Village and Nightcliff Shopping Centre.

Quote attributed to Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Nicole Manison:

“The Territory Labor Government promised to build a new modern police station in Nightcliff to boost capabilities across the Darwin region.

“We are ensuring our hard working police have the best facilities and resources to do their important work. We have also delivered new police stations in Palmerston, Angurugu and Ngukurr and construction will commence in Maningrida next year.”

“Territorians and local business were also supported throughout this development, with 250 jobs created during the life of the project.

Quotes attributed to Member for Nightcliff, Natasha Fyles:

“This is a fantastic day for the Nightcliff community, who have long deserved a purpose built police station and I’m proud to be the local member delivering that.

“I have worked tirelessly to advocate for this project and thank my Labor colleagues for making this police station a reality.

“This is such an important revitalisation project, which is not only creating jobs now, but also will create a central community hub, improving the lifestyle and reinvigorating the area.”
