Crews were called at 11.20am to the incident. The car had been driven 15 minutes prior and had then caught fire while parked in the garage.

Beaconsfield Fire Brigade, Berwick Fire Brigade, Pakenham Fire Brigade, Pakenham FRV, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria (AV) were also on scene.

The residences were alerted to the fire by the car’s alarm. Once reaching the garage they found the car to be smothered in smoke and fire.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames, and the incident was deemed safe at 1.05pm.

Crews contained the fire to the garage and there was no impact on the property above it.

The owner was taken to hospital by AV for minor smoke inhalation.

Upper Beaconsfield Captain Ian Pinney was on scene and said the home upstairs remained largely unaffected.

“It was great collaborative work by all involved to contain the fierce fire to just the garage area beneath the home,” Ian said.

“We haven’t had a fire of that nature for quite a few years, so it was great to have such a positive outcome.

“Thank you to all involved; a great team effort,” Ian added. “I hope the resident has a speedy recovery.”
