Cricket Victoria wins Gold Tier at Australian Pride in Sport Awards

Cricket Victoria has been recognised as one of Australian sport’s best LGBTQ inclusion organisations after being awarded a Gold Tier at the recent Australian Pride in Sport Awards held in Sydney.

Cricket Victoria was joined by Melbourne University Sport and RMIT University in receiving gold tiers for 2020.

The awards showcase the results of the Pride in Sport Index (PSI) – a national benchmarking instrument used to asses LGBTQ inclusion within Australian sport.

Cricket Victoria has previously been awarded both bronze and silver tiers and was last year named the Sporting Organisation of the Year at the annual awards.

Cricket Victoria’s Head of Participation, Community Development and Diversity Emma Staples said the organisation was proud of its achievements.

“I’d like to thank Pride in Sport for this wonderful recognition of our organisation and the work that has been done in recent years to continue to drive our inclusive approach and cricket opportunities for everyone in the community,” Staples said.

“We continue to take a holistic approach to our work in this important area – encompassing both club-based programs and new participation opportunities and broader research into the LGBTQ community and their engagement with cricket.”

First held in 2018, the Australian Pride in Sport Awards is the first celebration of its kind dedicated solely to recognising exceptional efforts in making sport more inclusive of LGBTQ people.

It is produced by Pride in Sport, the national not-for-profit sporting inclusion program spearheaded by Australia’s largest LGBTQ health organisation, ACON, as part of its Pride Inclusion Programs.

Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton said “We are delighted to receive this award which reinforces the importance of inclusion at all levels of our game. This award is not about us though – it is about everyone in our cricket community working together to ensure our game continues to be a safe and inclusive space where all are welcome.”
