Critical incident declared after crash at Auburn, NSW

A critical incident investigation has been launched following a serious crash in Sydney’s west.

About 2.20am today (Thursday 9 December 2021), officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command observed a motorcyclist carrying a pillion passenger, allegedly not wearing helmets, travelling on Homebush Bay Drive.

Officers attempted to stop the motorcycle; however, the driver allegedly accelerated from the scene.

A pursuit of the vehicle was initiated and terminated a short time later due to the manner of driving.

The motorcycle was later located at the intersection of Parramatta and St Hilliers Roads at Auburn, after colliding with two taxis.

Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries.

The men were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being transported to Westmead Hospital.

The drivers of each taxi were uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A critical incident team comprising of officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
