A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was hit by a garbage truck outside a restaurant in Sydney’s west this morning.
About 2.20am (Thursday 10 September 2026), emergency services were called to a restaurant on Luxford Road, Mount Druitt, after reports of a pedestrian hit by a garbage truck.
Officers attached to Mount Druitt Police Area Command responded along with NSW Ambulance paramedics who attempted to treat the man; however, he died at the scene.
The man is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be aged 21.
The driver, a 31-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As part of inquiries, police determined the pedestrian had attended the rear of Mount Druitt Police Station twice during evening and interacted with police.
Following these inquiries a critical incident was declared with a critical incident investigation team from Riverstone Police Area Command to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
