A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was shot by police in Fairfield.
About 7.30pm (Thursday 25 June 2026), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to a unit complex on Lawson Street, Fairfield, after reports of a concern for welfare.
Police attempted to speak with a man who allegedly ran towards officers, at which time an officer discharged a firearm, striking the man in the arm and torso.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
A critical incident team from Bankstown Police Area Command will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
