Critical Incident investigation launched into man’s death at Erina, NSW

A critical incident investigation has been launched following the death of a man during a confrontation with police in Erina last night.

About 10.20pm (Friday 1 November 2019), officers from Brisbane Water Police District and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were called to a house on The Entrance Road near Terrigal Drive, following reports of a dispute between neighbours.

Upon arrival, police noticed flames coming from the side of a house and two officers forced entry through the front door.

A man armed with an axe allegedly threatened them, before he was shot.

The man – aged 45 – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died a short time later.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

A critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to independent review.

All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man’s death.
