Critical incident investigation underway after crash at Blacktown, NSW

A critical incident investigation is underway after a man died following a crash in Sydney’s west overnight.

About 1.10am today (Sunday 2 January 2022), officers attached to Blacktown Police Area Command attempted to speak to a motorcyclist stopped on a street in Blacktown, after observing the rider and pillion passenger without helmets.

The rider allegedly failed to pull over on the side of the road as directed and rode from the scene.

A short time later, the motorcycle collided with a Lexus SUV travelling along Balmoral Street, at the intersection of Bungarribee Road.

One of the occupants of the motorcycle was assisted by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The second male occupant was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

The four occupants of the SUV were uninjured.

A crime scene has been established and a critical incident team from Mount Druitt Police Area Command will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to an independent review.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
