Crossbow, ammunition and ‘ice’ seized during vehicle stop at Oxley, NSW

Police have charged a man after locating a crossbow, ammunition and prohibited drugs during a vehicle stop in the state’s north east at the weekend.

About 5.10pm on Saturday (15 January 2022), officers attached to Oxley Highway Patrol stopped the driver of a blue Prime Mover truck on the New England Highway, Nemingha, for the purpose of a random breath test.

The driver was subject to a random breath and drug test, allegedly returning a positive result for methylamphetamine (ice).

In a subsequent search of the vehicle, police seized a crossbow, sling shot, ammunition, methylamphetamine (ice), prescription medication and drug paraphernalia.

The driver – 61-year-old man – was arrested a taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he underwent a secondary oral fluid test. The results have been sent for further analysis.

He was charged with two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, two counts of possess prohibited drug and two counts of possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

The Queensland man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Monday 17 January 2022).
