Croydon commuter car park upgrade complete

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Work is now complete on the commuter car park upgrade at the Croydon railway station in Melbourne’s east, providing 400 car parking spaces for commuters and visitors to the Croydon Activity Centre.

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the Morrison Government had provided $18 million to fully fund this important project.

“The Morrison Government is getting on with delivering infrastructure projects that improve congestion and safety for commuters across Australia, making it easier for them to move around our capital cities and ensuring they get home quickly and safely,” Minister Fletcher said.

“Under the Urban Congestion Fund, we are delivering 182 individual packages of works nationwide. The total number of projects that are now completed or underway is 78. By the end of 2022, more than 80 per cent of all packages are expected to be completed or under construction.

“This is just the latest example of us delivering on our commitment to progress critical infrastructure projects across the country under our record $110 billion, 10-year infrastructure investment pipeline, which is helping to drive Australia’s world-leading economic recovery.”

Federal Member for Deakin, the Hon Michael Sukkar MP, said the upgraded multi-deck car park, on the corner of Devon Street and Railway Grove, would encourage greater public transport use.

“This upgraded facility will provide commuters with increased access to parking and help reduce traffic congestion on surrounding local roads,” Mr Sukkar said.

“Among the additional car parking spaces are four electric vehicle charging spaces and six accessible spaces which are compliant with the Disabled Discrimination Act.

“The upgrade improves community access and improves safety and efficiency in the area.

“The Australian Government has committed a total of more than $260 million toward infrastructure projects across the federal electorate of Deakin, including upgrades to Canterbury Road, Dorset Road and the commuter car parks at Ringwood, Heatherdale and Heathmont.”
