Cyclists injured during event, NSW

An investigation is underway after multiple cyclists were injured during the event in the state’s Far North this morning.

About 7.20am (Sunday 6 December 2020), emergency services were called to Eviron Road, Eviron, about 10km north east of Murwillumbah, following reports multiple cyclists had been injured during a cycling event.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District attended and were told a group of cyclists collided with a police motorcyclist who was conducting traffic duties for the event.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated nine cyclists and the officer at the scene.

All 10 cyclists were taken to hospitals in Tweed Heads, Gold Coast and Murwillumbah with non-life-threatening injuries.

Inquiries are continuing.
