Dangerous driving arrest in Burpengary, QLD

A man was hospitalised overnight after consuming a large quantity of dangerous drugs as he allegedly fled from police in Burpengary.

It is alleged police attempted to intercept a silver hatchback on Old Gympie Road at around 10.50pm however it drove away at speed.

A short time later the hatchback allegedly sped through a red light and crashed into another vehicle on Deception Bay Road before the driver fled the scene.

A dog squad officer commenced a search of the area and a 22-year-old man was located and taken into custody. Close to eleven thousand dollars in cash was also found nearby.

The man then began to show signs of illness after having allegedly eaten a large quantity of methyl amphetamine while he ran from police.

He was immediately transported to Caboolture Hospital for further treatment.

A search of the crashed hatchback uncovered additional suspect items which were seized for examination.

Investigations are continuing.
