Dangerous driving, assault police – Moorooka

A man is assisting police with inquiries following an alleged dangerous driving incident in Moorooka last night and the serious assault of a police officer.

At 6.30pm, an officer responded to reports of a serious traffic crash, where a driver had allegedly collided at speed with seven vehicles, before rolling his utility and crashing into a fence.

The driver then allegedly attempted to flee the scene and assaulted a police officer in the process.

The officer chased the man on foot for a short distance before catching up with him nearby.

It will be alleged the man continued to wrestle and struggle with the officer before he was successfully restrained with the assistance of additional police.

A 30-year-old Taringa man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during the crash.

A 51-year-old male senior constable was treated for a laceration to his face, sustained during the assault.

Investigations are continuing.
