Dangerous driving charge at Cairns

Police have charged a 20-year-old man following an alleged dangerous driving incident at Bungalow in Cairns last night, May 15.

At approximately 8.20pm police officers were conducting Random Breath Testing at a static site on Aumuller Street, when a Kia Stonic has allegedly driven at officers causing them to take evasive action.

It will be alleged the vehicle has then left the scene.

No one was physically injured.

The Kia Stonic was located a short time later abandoned at Manunda.

Investigations led police to a Westcourt address at approximately 1.30am, where a 20-year-old local man was taken into custody.

He has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, fail to comply with requirement to stop, driving without a licence and possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis).

His bail has been refused and he is expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court this morning, May 16.
