Dangerous driving charges at Shorncliffe, QLD

A man has been charged following a traffic crash involving a stolen car entering the water at Shorncliffe last night.

At 11.30pm, police were alerted to reports of a car driving into the water off the Shorncliffe boat ramp.

Upon arrival, police located the car and a man in the water.

The man followed police directions and swam back to shore where he was taken into custody without injury or further incident.

Police will allege the man had stolen the car from a Banksia Beach address on February 24. Police will also allege the man was driving under the influence of dangerous drugs before driving the stolen car into water.

The 23-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with two counts of receiving tainted property and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a driver licence and possessing dangerous drugs.

He is expected to appear in Sandgate Magistrates Court on Monday, March 11.
