Dangerous driving charges at Slade Point, QLD

Police have charged a man after he allegedly drove dangerously in a stolen Nissan Navara at Slade Point this morning.

It will be alleged police observed the vehicle at 5.10am on Slade Point Road, when officers activated lights and siren.

The driver accelerated away, performing a U-turn before police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.

The vehicle continued to drive along Slade Point Road and turned Keeleys Road then onto Andergrove Road travelling at speed.

The vehicle turned right into Bedford Road and travelled on the wrong side of the road before turning right into Oak Street and onto Keeleys Road. As the vehicle turned onto Slade Point Road, the front right tyre was destroyed and was travelling on the rim.

The vehicle entered Lester Hensen Street and hit a curb, coming to a stop.

The driver tried to run from the vehicle but was arrested.

It will be further alleged the Nissan Navara was stolen from a Mount Pleasant address earlier in the night.

A 26-year-old Hay Point man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count each of evade, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

He will appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow, June 25.
