Dangerous operation charge at Rollingstone

Detectives have charged a 24-year-old Rothwell man following a two vehicle crash at Rollingstone yesterday (December 30).

Police will allege around 10:30am a stolen grey Holden Colorado veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided head on with a removalist truck on the Bruce Highway around two kilometres south of the Rollingstone Pub.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the stolen four-wheel-drive fled the scene and was later picked up by a passing motorist.

Police arrested the man at a Garbutt address just after 6am today.

He has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence disqualified by a court order as well as fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.

The man has been denied police bail and is expected to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Investigations are continuing into the alleged theft of the Colorado from a Holloways Beach on December 29 and the break in of a Smithfield home in the early hours of yesterday morning.
