Dario up in arms over news report

You may have seen a concerning report on the news last night that Wolston supervisor Dario had his arm broken in an assault on Thursday evening.

No-one was more concerned by this report than Dario himself, who sent us this pic to prove his arms are just fine, thank you very much.

We thought you might like to see the entire response we provided to Channel 9 yesterday about the incident:

Queensland Corrective Services can confirm that a number of custodial correctional staff were assaulted during an incident at a secure unit at Wolston Correctional Centre on Thursday evening.

A prisoner who was informed he was not approved to receive photographs in the mail began assaulting a staff member on the unit.

As two officers came to assist, a second prisoner then joined in the assault.

A group of officers including a supervisor responded to assist the officers in the unit, and after a brief engagement, the prisoners were restrained. The rest of the unit was locked down, and two prisoners were escorted to the detention unit.

Three officers received bruising and abrasions in the incident, none of whom sustained significant injury.

They were assessed by medical staff.

Prisons are highly dynamic environments, and despite the best efforts of our officers, from time to time, people who have been jailed for violence in the community demonstrate similar behaviour in prison.

Our officers are highly trained professionals and are truly the front line of public safety, managing the most complex and challenging people in our society.

We contacted Channel 9 last night and expressed our concern both at the inaccuracy of the reporting and the use of a personal photograph without Dario’s consent.

We’ve learned that one of Dario’s colleagues has a splint on her hand due to a thumb injury, and we wish her and all the officers injured in this incident a speedy recovery.
