Sydney football fans will be able to celebrate together for the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and final, as the NSW Government will again activate the Darling Harbour Tumbalong Park precinct for three matches.

More than 20,000 football fans filled the Tumbalong Park precinct early on Sunday morning to cheer on the Socceroos as they valiantly lost to Lionel Messi’s star-studded Argentina side 2-1.
To provide football fans with further opportunity to cheer on the world’s best, live screens will be placed at Tumbalong Park to screen the two semi-finals and final.
Security and food trucks will be in place for all three matches.
The matches that will be streamed are:
- Semi-final 1: Wednesday 14 December 6am AEDT
- Semi-final 2: Thursday 15 December 6am AEDT
- Final: Monday 19 December 2am AEDT
Premier Dominic Perrottet said it was clear football fans wanted to come together to watch the World Cup.
“The thousands of people who screamed, cheered and punched the air for the Socceroos might not have their team to cheer on in the finals but the best footballers in the world are still competing for the ultimate trophy so it is fitting that we can turn the live screens back on at Darling Harbour for the finals,” Mr Perrottet said.
“Being in the crowd on Sunday and celebrating and commiserating as one – there is no better way to watch football than all together.”
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said while Australia fans were still in awe of the Socceroos’ brave performance against Argentina, the passion for football in NSW is alive and well.
“The Socceroos may be out, but there are still some exciting matches ahead, so it’s great that fans will be able to return to Tumbalong Park for the semi-finals and final in what will be an unparalleled atmosphere,” Mr Henskens said.
“NSW is the sporting capital of Australia and this live site will be set up and supported to ensure everyone can watch the world’s best fight it out for World Cup glory.
“This is giving football in Australia and in our State great momentum going forward, with Sydney set to host 11 matches at the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.”
