Full Council will this Friday consider an event “fitting for the passing of Her Majesty” when a national day of mourning is held on September 22.

“Any event we approve will be a day of reflection so people can pay their respects and look back on the reign of Her Majesty,” said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.

“The event for our city will be at Queen Elizabeth Park (Coolangatta) and will likely commence mid-afternoon.

“It will include opportunities to sign our City Condolence Books as well as live music.

“We are hoping to secure the services of an orchestra. I invite all residents to make their way to the park mid-afternoon (September 22), for a time to reflect and remember Her Majesty’s great service to the Commonwealth as well as public life.”

Details will be published on this website this Friday.

This week’s council will also discuss proposed plans for a more fitting memorial for Her Majesty. That memorial will require approval from Buckingham Palace (Queen’s Outdoor Trust) as well as approval from King Charles III.

If approved, it is likely that memorial will be established in Queen Elizabeth Park.
