The Clean Energy Regulator has extended the deadline for Australia’s major companies to opt into a pilot of the Corporate Emissions Reduction Transparency (CERT) report.
Companies now have until 15 February 2022 to opt-in.
The CERT report is an Australian Government initiative to enhance transparency and accountability around companies’ net zero emissions planning. The simple report will support companies above the NGER publication threshold to publicly report their emissions reduction and renewable electricity commitments and progress in a clear and consistent way.
Chair of the Clean Energy Regulator David Parker, said the report pilot launched in November 2021 continues to attract strong interest with major companies in the industrial, materials, utilities, financial, real estate and consumer sectors already opting in.
However, some companies asked for more time to join the pilot in light of the challenges many are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to opt into the CERT report pilot has been extended to enable more companies to participate in this important new initiative.
“The CERT pilot’s kick off has shown that some of Australia’s largest companies are actively tackling climate-risk and are keen to demonstrate that they have a sound pathway to reducing emissions and increasing their use of renewable electricity,” Mr Parker said.
The first CERT report, due to be published mid-2022, will show the net emissions and renewable electricity use of all participating companies based on quality Clean Energy Regulator data.
Information presented in the CERT report will support companies that report under international climate-related financial reporting frameworks, such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures.
Companies reporting emissions above 50 kilotonnes carbon dioxide equivalence (CO2-e) under the NGER Act have until 15 February 2022 to opt into the CERT using a simple online form.
