As the nation prepares to head to the polls next month, Brimbank Council is looking for key commitments from the major parties for projects that will have real benefits for its community.
Brimbank Council has set out three key priorities ahead of the 18 May Federal Election.
Brimbank Mayor, Cr Lucinda Congreve said the Sunshine Super Hub, replacement of the St Albans Leisure Centre, and fixing the Calder Freeway were crucial issues for Brimbank Council and its community.
“With the election just around the corner, we want commitments from the major parties that will secure real jobs, transport, education, and fairness outcomes for Brimbank.
“Unlocking the potential of the Sunshine Super Hub, replacing the St Albans Leisure Centre with a world-class Health and Wellbeing Hub, and fixing the Calder Freeway are our top priorities.
“The Sunshine Super Hub is an exciting project with enormous potential to deliver jobs, education and positive, transformative change to Brimbank and beyond.
“Council is uniquely positioned to contribute to this landmark project that will impact our community for generations to come.
“We are ready and able to contribute to the development of the Sunshine Super Hub project from the earliest possible stage.
“We want to be engaged as a formal partner to deliver the best outcomes for the West, and to support real engagement with the local community, businesses and key stakeholders,” Cr Congreve said.
“The world-class Health and Wellbeing Hub we are planning to build as a replacement for the ageing St Albans Leisure Centre will be an Australian first.
“The new hub will integrate an aquatic and leisure centre with social and health support services, delivered by co-located tenant partners under the one roof.
“We want to work together on this milestone project that can help stop the cycle of disadvantage currently being experienced by our community, and we’re looking for a financial commitment from the Federal Government.
“While we’ve welcomed the $50 million Federal Budget announcement for the Calder Freeway, it’s hard to forget the images of the near disastrous crash that left a truck dangling over the edge of the Calder Freeway in November last year.
“We want assurance this money will be used to address our safety concerns, including the need for a full diamond interchange at the intersection of the Calder Freeway and Calder Park Drive; and upgrading the Calder Freeway between the Western Ring Road and the Melton Highway.
“We are determined to ensure Brimbank’s Federal Election priorities are addressed by the incoming Federal Government,” Mayor Congreve said.
