Death in Custody – Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre

Queensland Corrective Services can confirm that a prisoner died at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre this morning.

The 34-year-old non-Indigenous man was in a single occupancy cell.

He was found unresponsive at approximately 4am this morning. Officers immediately commenced CPR and called Queensland Ambulance Service, however the man was declared deceased just after 5am.

CSIU is investigating the circumstances of the incident, and Queensland Corrective Services and GEO will assist police to prepare a report for the Coroner.

Our condolences go to the man’s family and loved ones at this sad time.

The officers who responded to the incident will be provided support and assistance.
