Death investigation at Cooktown, QLD

Police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old woman at Cooktown yesterday.

Police were called to a Railway Avenue home around 5pm in relation to a woman needing assistance.

As police were speaking to family members and the woman, she suffered a medical episode, and later became unresponsive.

Police performed CPR until the arrival of QAS staff.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident and the Crime and Corruption Commission has oversight of the investigation. Investigators are speaking to family members who were present at the scene and have reviewed body worn camera footage of the incident.

The State Coroner has been advised. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
