Debt collector Panthera responds to ACCC’s penalty announcement

The Federal Court has ordered that Panthera Finance Pty Ltd pay $500,000 in penalties for unduly harassing three consumers over debts they did not owe and for misleading one of the three consumers, the ACCC announced today

Responding to the ACCC announcement, a spokesperson for Panthera said:

“The Board and senior management team of Panthera Finance are pleased that the issues raised by the ACCC during these proceedings have now been resolved.”

“We have apologised to the three customers impacted and taken further steps to strengthen compliance and ensure these issues do not happen again.”

“The judgement recognises that the conduct was isolated, and neither deliberate nor systemic.”

“The judgement also found that there was no evidence to suggest that senior management was involved or even aware of the conduct of several low-level employees who failed to follow Panthera’s policies and procedures.”

“Our levels of compliance and quality set a new standard for the rest of industry.”
