December construction blitz on Geelong Line

Vic Department of Transport

Upgrades to Waurn Ponds Station will continue this summer to enable more frequent and reliable services for passengers on the Geelong Line.

The new station forecourt at Waurn Ponds will be completed during an upcoming works blitz, transforming the main entrance to the station.

New paving, seating and pedestrian paths will provide improved links between the car park and station for passengers, making it more accessible for the local community.

Ramps connecting to the new pedestrian overpass will be lifted into place, with fittings for the stairs, ramps and overpass to be finalised.

Major earthworks for the new train stabling and maintenance facility near Waurn Ponds Station will continue, to enable track installation to start next year. The stabling facility will support additional services on the Geelong Line, and will include 6 stabling tracks to store and fuel trains.

Work to upgrade the Warrnambool Line will also progress while trains aren’t running, with signalling infrastructure to be installed at Boorcan to support the crossing loop’s operation.

Coaches will replace trains between Warrnambool and Geelong, and buses will replace trains between Waurn Ponds and South Geelong, from Saturday 27 November to Sunday 12 December 2021.
