Delivering another election commitment for Tasmania’s health system

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is focused on delivering our plan to build a better health system for all Tasmanians.

Today I had the pleasure of opening the $2.5 million redevelopment of the Cecelia Button Hospital Wing of the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre (MMPHC), our 2018 election commitment.

The project completed by Tasmanian business Fairbrother Construction will allow health care providers to deliver better health outcomes for patients from across the Southern Midlands and Bothwell regions.

The refurbishment will also substantially improve the accommodation for the 18 aged care residents housed at MMPHC and create a better working environment for the 54 staff employed at MMPHC, along with the four GP’s and ten supporting specialists who visit every month.

The newly refurbished areas include:

  • a new entry portico with reception and waiting areas;
  • new offices and administration accommodation, including a new staff room;
  • updated nurses’ station;
  • two bed acute ward;
  • a single bed acute ward;
  • a single bariatric acute ward;
  • new laundry and staff service rooms;
  • updated pharmacy, emergency and treatment rooms;
  • and new nurse call and DECT phone systems.

Only the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is delivering a plan to keep the economy strong, help create more local jobs and invest in essential services like MMPHC.
