The Albanese and Crisafulli Governments have reached another milestone in delivering a better Bruce Highway, with major upgrades now complete on two bridges near Benaraby, south of Gladstone.
The Station Creek and Boyne River bridges underwent critical upgrades to improve safety as part of the jointly funded Bruce Highway Upgrade Program.
The works included concrete and steel repairs, cracked deck repairs and barrier repairs to improve the structural integrity of the bridges.
The works were jointly funded, with the Albanese Government contributing $11.04 million and the Crisafulli Government contributing $2.76 million.
The works are being delivered as part of a historic $9 billion jointly funded Bruce Highway investment to boost safety for the spine of the State, getting Queenslanders home sooner and safer.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the completion of the Station Creek and Boyne River bridge upgrades was a significant milestone for Central Queensland.
“Completion of the Station Creek and Boyne River bridge upgrades is great news for Central Queensland,” Minister King said.
“The Australian Government is proud to partner with the Queensland Government to deliver important safety improvements on the Bruce Highway.”
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was delivering generational infrastructure to get Queenslanders home sooner and safer in Central Queensland.
“The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of delivering a better Bruce Highway after we secured this 80:20 funding deal with a historic $9 billion investment,” Minister Mickelberg said.
“This is about boosting safety on the Bruce and works are already making a real difference for motorists, regional communities and freight operators between Gympie and Cairns, with much more to come.”
Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Senator for Queensland Anthony Chisholm said the Albanese Government made a commitment to Queenslanders to build a better Bruce.
“Completing these bridge upgrades at Station Creek and Boyne River near Gladstone means safer and more dependable journeys for locals, tourists and our hard-working truckies,” Assistant Minister Chisholm said.
“This has been a vital investment in strengthening the Bruce and delivering safer and more efficient travel through this part of Central Queensland.”
Queensland Member for Callide Bryson Head said it was great to see works completed along Queensland’s most significant transport corridor.
“Finally the Bruce Highway is getting the investment it needs and deserves, under the 80:20 funding deal ,” Mr Head said.
“These upgrades at Station Creek and Boyne River will help ensure this section of the highway remains safe, reliable and fit for purpose for the thousands of motorists and freight operators who rely on it every day.”
