The Tasmanian Government is focused on delivering land faster and easier for social and affordable housing, with the Housing Land Supply (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2026 passing the House of Assembly.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the proposed amendments to the Bill deliver a more streamlined process.
“This Bill shortens the time frames for rezoning land with the parliamentary process occurring after the Order is made, instead of before,” Minister Vincent said.
“This ensures Government land is available for housing sooner while keeping important checks and balances in place.
“These proposed amendments will ensure a much more efficient process for delivering housing across our state and aims to reduce potential delays when Parliament is in recess.
“Providing Tasmanians with a safe, secure place to call home is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future.”
Since 2018, the Housing Land Supply Act 2018 has been used to rezone more than 70 hectares of land for housing, creating the potential for up to 1000 new homes.
