Delivering on our historic commitment to improve safety of women and children

A new Implementation Plan across all Australian jurisdictions released today will support the delivery of the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.

It is an important milestone in our shared national commitment to ensure a safer Australia for women and children – importantly coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Women Marise Payne said the National Implementation Plan demonstrates strong, on-the-ground commitments to make a difference for all Australian women and children.

“We need practical and collaborative efforts to drive real and lasting change on improving the safety of Australian women and their children,” Minister Payne said.

“States and territories have committed to improving frontline services including crisis support to women and their children in need.

“The Commonwealth is strengthening its prevention efforts and improving essential services.”

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said the National Implementation Plan importantly puts measurable outcomes beside the more than 160 initiatives funded under the Fourth Action Plan.

“It will ensure greater accountability and transparency on how the Commonwealth, states and territories are working to support women and children who experience violence and vitally tell us which initiatives are making the biggest difference,” Minister Ruston said.

“It follows the Government hitting play on another burst of the Stop it at the Start advertising campaign last week, which encourages adults to start a conversation with young people about respectful relationships.”
