Delivery of new Spirits

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Infrastructure

This week, the Tasmanian Government received an update from TT-Line in relation to the two new Spirits.

TT-Line is in ongoing discussions with German shipbuilders, FSG, given reported challenges being faced by the company, which could impact on delivery timeframes.

A contract with FSG remains in place and detailed design work is progressing however, TT-Line is also continuing to have discussions with other shipbuilders in case the situation changes.

The Government is awaiting further advice from TT-Line as to FSG’s capacity to deliver the ships in-line with the contract.

It is important to note that no money has changed hands and the Tasmanian Government will not pay one cent until there are assurances around FSG’s capacity to fulfil the contract and a refund guarantee is in place.

The Board of TT-Line have today also met and been briefed on the current situation.

The two new Spirits are a major investment for Tasmania and will be 30 per cent larger than the current vessels.

The Government will continue to update Tasmanians on any further progress.
