Hungry voters can help support ACT public schools as volunteers fire up the BBQ for the Federal Referendum on Saturday.
P&C associations across Canberra will offer traditional sausage sizzles, cake stalls and more in a bid to raise funds for their schools and connect with their communities.
“Buying a sausage at the polling booth is a wonderful part of Australian democracy and a great way to support local schools,” says Alison Elliott, President of the ACT Council of P&C Associations – the peak body for the public school parent groups running the BBQs.
“This year we are seeing a return to classic Aussie fare at many schools – bacon and egg rolls for the early birds, democracy sausages throughout the day and a cake stall to grab something sweet.
“There are also quite a few schools combining the day with a mini fete, or market stalls this year. Depending on where you vote you might be able to pick up some raffle tickets, or something nice for the garden while supporting your local school community.”
