Departmental traffic crash investigation in North Rockhampton, QLD

Police are investigating a traffic crash in North Rockhampton involving a police vehicle and a male pedestrian this morning.

It will be alleged police were attempting to speak to a man along Alexandra Street in Park Avenue just before 10am regarding property related matters, when he ran from police.

Preliminary information suggests the man ran onto the roadway and into the path of an unmarked police vehicle.

It is further alleged the man then struggled violently with police on the ground, during which time a taser was deployed and the man taken into custody.

A 38-year-old West Rockhampton man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

He was issued with a Notice to Appear for assault of a police officer and is expected to face the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 6.

An investigation, overviewed by the Ethical Standards Command, has commenced.
