The ever-popular Depot Beach campground in Murramarang National Park has re-opened, with brand new amenities offering visitors the same great stay with some improvements.
Kane Weeks from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) said the project has been completed just in time to welcome back campers this summer.
‘With up to 200 people able to stay at this beach-side campground at any one time, these new facilities will provide an even better experience for new visitors and those who return year after year,’ Mr Weeks said.
‘The amenities are now more accessible to people with limited mobility and to families with younger children.
‘We have new wheelchair accessible pathways, bathrooms and showers as well as family-friendly features.
‘There is a new family changeroom with seating, new baby change tables and instantaneous hot water showers.
‘The brand-new amenities building was designed and positioned to capture plenty of natural light and ventilation.
‘It includes features such off-grid solar power, solar hot-water, 2 new rainwater tanks and motion sensing low-voltage lighting.
‘Water saving devices such as timers and tempering valves also mean that water is not wasted onsite.
‘Additional dishwashing facilities have also been installed so there will be more space and maybe even less arguments over who will do the dishes.
‘Our repeat visitors should be really impressed with the changes as the old amenity building had really reached the end of its life.
‘It’s these new little comforts that will really add up and give visitors an overall enjoyable experience.
‘The local building company did an amazing job to get it all done, despite the location, lack of mobile phone reception, the lack of tradies and winter and spring wet weather,’ Mr Weeks said.
This project was completed as part of the biggest infrastructure investment in NSW national parks history, delivering $450 million of priority works that benefit the community and boost nature-based tourism across the State.
Depot Beach campground and cabins are all now open and people can check summer availability and book a site on the NPWS website.
