Police have charged a man after he allegedly held a woman against her will and assaulted another man.
It will be alleged around 6.30pm a 21-year-old man threatened a woman who was known to him and demanded she get into a Mazda 3 he was driving.
Officers tracked the vehicle in an unmarked police car before successfully deploying a tyre deflation device on Nambour Connection Road near the Big Pineapple.
It will be further alleged the man accelerated away before proceeding through a red light and crashing into a Toyota Camry at the intersection with Maroochydore Road.
The man fled from the Mazda 3 and ran into the north-bound traffic of the Bruce Highway.
A Rav4 stopped and the man allegedly punched the driver, a 64-year-old man, in the head several times before pulling him from the vehicle.
The 21-year-old man got into the vehicle and attempted to drive away, however a 52-year-old woman in the passenger seat pressed the “push button” to stop the car.
The man was unable to start the vehicle again as the driver, who had the proximity keys in his pocket, was not in the vehicle.
Police then arrested the man.
The 21-year-old Nambour man has been charged with one count of deprivation of liberty (DV offence), robbery with violence and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, September 17.
