Derby Firearm Burglary Charges

Five people have been charged by Derby Detectives as part of an investigation into a recent burglary in Derby, during which three firearms were stolen from a gun safe.
The burglary was reported to Derby Police on Sunday 17 September 2023, with the victim believing it had occurred some time in the previous few days. Derby Police and Derby Detectives commenced an investigation. Detectives from the Rapid Apprehension Squad and a forensic officer were deployed to Derby to assist with the investigation.
On Monday 18 September 2023, four juveniles were taken into custody at a residence in Derby. A subsequent search of rural bushland within the Derby townsite resulted in all three firearms being located concealed under leaves. This discovery led to an adult male being arrested at a Derby residence.
During the course of the investigation links were established between the four juveniles and a recent burglary on a hotel.
Two 17-year-old boys, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy have been charged with the following offences and are due to appear in Derby Children’s Court today, Wednesday 20 September 2023:
– Aggravated Home Burglary and Commit
– Stealing
– Stealing by opening a locked box
– Aggravated Burglary with Intent on a Place (hotel burglary)
A 40-year-old Derby man has been charged with the following offences and is due to appear in Derby Magistrates Court on Wednesday 4 October 2023:
– Unlicensed person came into possession of three or more firearms
– Possession of Prohibited Drugs with Intent to Sell or Supply (Cannabis)
– Possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property
