Detectives injured during arrest over break-in in Sydney CBD

Police have charged a man after he allegedly assaulted two detectives during an arrest in Sydney’s CBD today.

Just after 8am (Wednesday 27 May 2020), officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended a hotel on George Street, Haymarket, and arrested a 37-year-old man over an alleged break-in on Harris Street, Pyrmont, on Sunday 17 May 2020.

The man allegedly injured the two detectives during a short struggle before being placed under arrest.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for a cut to his head before being transferred to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated break and enter, two counts of aggravated break and enter with intent, seven counts of fraud, two counts of assault police causing actual bodily harm, and resist arrest.

The detectives, two men aged 40 and 37, have been taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment. The 40-year-old suffered two fractured ribs and lacerations to his hands and knee. The 30-year-old was treated for a suspected fractured finger and grazes.

A 32-year-old man was also arrested at the same location, before being taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with malicious damage, larceny, breach AVO, resist officer and offensive language.

Both men were refused bail and are due to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 28 May 2020).
