Detox your home safely

Household chemicals are harmful to the environment and can be dangerous. That’s why it is important that they are disposed of safely.

Brimbank residents have the opportunity to reduce the risk of poisoning, environmental pollution, fire hazards and improve recycling rates by participating in Detox your Home.

This is a safe and easy-to-use service offered at no-cost to dispose of common, highly toxic household chemicals without harming your health or the environment.

Detox your Home will be held on Saturday 15 February from 9am-3pm at Council’s Operation Centre in Keilor Park.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou encouraged residents to take advantage of this safe and free opportunity to dispose of a range of household items they no longer need.

‘This is a safe and convenient way to dispose of highly toxic chemicals you may have lying around your home and might not know how to get rid of,’ Cr Papafotiou said.

‘Another bonus is that you have the peace of mind that these items are being disposed of safely and are no longer a threat to you, your loved ones and our precious environment.’

Please register online as places are limited to 150 households. You can register at Detox Your Home or call 1300 363 744, then turn up on the day and drop off your unwanted items.

The program, administered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with local councils, is funded by the Victorian landfill levy.
