Sod was turned at Thornhill Park on 14 June to officially commence construction of the Rockbank Murray Road Children’s and Community Centre.
Once complete, the centre will include a four room kindergarten to deliver funded three and four-year-old kindergarten; Maternal and Child Health Services; Family and Early Childhood Services; parenting support programs; playgroups and a wide range of community programs and activities.
City of Melton Mayor Cr Goran Kesic was joined by Member for Melton Steve McGhie to mark the building milestone.
Cr Kesic said he was confident the Rockbank Murray Road Children’s and Community Centre would provide much-needed services for young families in the fast growing area.
“Early childhood services such as these play a vital role in supporting children’s learning, social connection and development, helping them reach their full potential,” Cr Kesic said.
“The co-location of various services at this one site means parents can access a range of services more easily. This centre will enable us to support many families and our youngest residents through their early development, giving them the best possible start we can.
“I’d like to extend our warmest thanks to the State Government for its support of early years service provision in the City of Melton.”
Rockbank Murray Road Children’s and Community Centre is due to be completed in time for the 2023 kindergarten year. The State Government contributed $4 million through the Building Blocks Fund for the project, with a co-contribution of $7,736,158 from Melton City Council.
