Assistant Minister for Community Housing, Homelessness and Community Services, Luke Howarth today joined with Hygge Community Life in Perth for the launch of Home Hub.
“Home Hub is an exciting initiative that will provide a centralised digital platform for people in need of social, affordable and emergency housing in Western Australia,” Assistant Minister Howarth said.
“It’s great to be able to launch this platform with the goal of reducing waiting times and help Western Australians to get into safe and affordable homes faster”.
Hygge Community Life, the operator of Home Hub, is a not-for-profit with registered charitable status working to reduce waiting times for a home in Western Australia. The organisation has plans to expand its business model to operate nationwide.
Home Hub founder Iain Shields said it is exciting to work with people who own or manage housing and accommodation across WA to give locals a hand up with access to safe and affordable homes.
Assistant Minister Howarth said Home Hub is a great example of how collaboration between the community services and community housing sectors, and state and territory governments can generate real solutions for those doing it tough.
“The Morrison Government is committed to addressing the issue of housing affordability and homelessness, by providing support to the states and territories to fund important initiatives to help those who need it most within their localities.”
The Morrison Government provides more than $1.5 billion a year to help state and territory governments tackle housing and homelessness.
In 2019-20, the Government also expects to invest around $4.6 billion in Commonwealth Rent Assistance, helping around 1.3 million eligible recipients of social security income support, family assistance and veterans’ payments.
