Direct flights welcome

Peter Gutwein,Premier & Minister for Tourism

The Tasmanian Liberal Government welcomes this morning’s announcement by Link Aviation on the launch of direct services between Canberra and Hobart.

Link Airways have announced four services per week from 3 December 2020 subject to the easing of border restrictions between Tasmania and the ACT.

Link Airways has advised it will also bring forward the commencement of the new services should we relax our border restrictions sooner, based on advice.

Initially, Link Airways will operate a 34 seat Saab 340 Plus aircraft on the route and will operate Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The new service will provide another option for interstate travellers to be able to fly direct to our island, making Tasmania a more easily accessible and viable travel destination for visitors from our nation’s capital. It will also give Tasmanians an easier and quicker option for travel to the ACT.

Today’s announcement from Link Airways is evidence that there continues to be strong confidence in our visitor economy and demand for travel to Tasmania as a destination when we relax our border restrictions in a safe way.

We will continue to deliver our Plan to rebuild a stronger Tasmania as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and we look forward to welcoming visitors back to explore our beautiful State, and support our local businesses and tourism operators.
