City of Playford’s Shade Tree Subsidy is back for a second year giving residents an opportunity to purchase a shady tree at a discounted price, in efforts to help increase tree canopy on private land in Playford.

As part of Council’s Urban Tree Strategy, a limited number of tree subsidy vouchers are available to help encourage residents to purchase a tree to plant in their yard. By purchasing a $12 ticket, residents will receive a tree voucher valued up to $55.

Mayor Glenn Docherty said more trees on private land in Playford is one initiative under Council’s Urban Tree Strategy, which aims to increase citywide canopy from 15 per cent to 20 per cent by 2045.

“Growing the tree canopy is a combined effort involving both Council and our community,” Mayor Docherty said.

“This program is a great way to give residents the chance to green their own slice of Playford,” the Mayor said. “Trees add a green and leafy charm to our suburbs, but they also bring many benefits to our environment and health.”

Vouchers can be redeemed for selected shady trees at either Bunnings, Munno Para West or Provenance Indigenous Plants, Salisbury Park.

“We had a huge response to this program last year with vouchers selling out within days of release, so we’re very excited to offer it once again,” the Mayor said.

Vouchers will be released for sale at 10am Tuesday 12 September 2023. They can be purchased online through Eventbrite or in-person from the customer service desk at the Playford Civic Centre at 10 Playford Blvd, Elizabeth.
