Discover clever critters in your Sunshine Coast backyard

Have you ever wondered what type of native animals might call your garden home? If so, mark our Backyard Buddies events in your calendar.

Presented by Geckoes Wildlife, these free events are hosted at libraries across the region, and provide the opportunity to get up close with three local species of flying-fox and meet owls, snakes and other animals.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said this educational and interactive series is a great addition to the libraries’ diverse events available for the community, further reinforcing the Sunshine Coast Council’s healthy, smart, creative vision.

“Bring your kids along and discover more about all these fascinating creatures in the comfort of our local libraries,” Cr McKay said.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about their interesting habits and what to do if you come in contact with them.

“You’ll even learn about the secret life of flying-foxes and other native animals that depend of them for survival.

“These little critters are also local residents of the Sunshine Coast, so we all need to educate ourselves on how to live side-by-side and respect the wildlife.”

The Backyard Buddies events are free, but registration is essential. Head to the library website or call 5475 8989 to secure your spot.

Sunshine Coast Libraries host a variety of events across the region, head to our What’s On events calendar to find out what’s happening in your area, or subscribe to the library eNews.
