Disqualified driver caught drunk behind wheel in Colac

Colac Highway Patrol officers were shocked after intercepting an unregistered vehicle in Colac on New Year’s Day.

Officers intercepted the Ford sedan on Wallace Street about 5pm, after a routine check suggested that the vehicle did not have current registration.

The driver was unable to produce a driver’s licence, with enquiries revealing he was disqualified from holding a licence.

It went from bad to worse after the driver was found to have an alleged breath-alcohol concentration of .155.

The driver, a 33-year-old Birregurra man, will be summonsed to appear before a Magistrate for offences relating to drink-driving, driving whilst disqualified and using an unregistered motor vehicle.

The man’s car was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1170.
